Mackinac Island Grand Vacation
September 7 – 13, 2008

 

Sunday September 7, 2008
This morning we board our motorcoach and enjoy coffee + doughnuts as we head north through Indiana.  We will arrive in Holland, Michigan, where we will check-in at the Country Inn.  After dinner at the Alpen Rose Restaurant, we will ride out to Holland State Park.   Here we can see the famous lighthouse, “Big Red”, and watch the final rays of the sun setting over Lake Michigan.  (D)

Monday September 8
Breakfast is available in the lobby of the Country Inn and then we continue our journey to Mackinaw City.  After lunch we will ferry to Mackinac Island.  There we are taken by horse-drawn taxi to the World’s Largest Summer Hotel – Grand Hotel.  We will take some time to get acquainted with Grand Hotel and the hotel staff will be happy to answer any questions.  Dinner this evening is in the elegant dining room at Grand Hotel.  (B, D)

Tuesday September 9
Breakfast is in the Grand Hotel dining Room. This morning we will tour the Island. Since there are no motorized vehicles on Mackinac Island, the tour is by horse-drawn wagon.  Today is yours to enjoy as you wish.  You may want to visit the shops of downtown Mackinac Island or rent a carriage or bike to explore the Island.  You might enjoy sitting on the porch, enjoying the view from Grand Hotel.  While you are on Mackinac Island, be sure to enjoy plenty of the famous fudge!  This evening’s dinner is in the Hotel’s dining room.  After dinner you can enjoy some of the entertainment that will be found in Grand Hotel.   (B, D)

Wednesday September 10
After breakfast our visit to Grand Hotel comes to an end.  We will take the ferry to St. Ignace, cross the Mackinac Bridge, and begin our trip home.  Arriving in the Bavarian village of Frankenmuth, we will have to check-out the many shops downtown.  This afternoon we’ll take a cruise on the Bavarian Belle Riverboat and, of course, we’ll take you to Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland!  Later, we’ll check-in at the Drury Inn, This evening we will enjoy a family-style dinner at Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn Restaurant, featuring Chicken and Kasseler Rippchen.  It’s a real treat!  (B, D)

 Thursday September 11
Breakfast is in the Drury Inn and then we meet our guide for a tour of Frankenmuth.  As our tour ends, we will take part in “pretzel rolling”. Yes, you get to make your own pretzel and then enjoy it after it is cooked. This afternoon we will arrive in Dearborn.  After checking-in at the Hampton Inn, we will enjoy a tour of the Henry Ford EstateDinner is included at the Henry Ford Estate this evening.  (B, D)

 Friday September 12
Breakfast is available in the Hampton Inn.  Today we have included admission to the The Henry Ford.  The Henry Ford Museum celebrates and showcases our nation’s genius at work.  Greenfield Village is a vast outdoor museum filled with buildings of historic significance. We have included coupon so you can enjoy lunch at your leisure while at The Henry Ford.   As the day and our vacation draw to an end, we will enjoy a buffet dinner in the casual setting of Leon’s in Dearborn.  (B, L, D)

 Saturday September 13
We start the day with our hotel’s breakfast and then head home.  (B)

A more detailed itinerary will be sent to you about two weeks prior to departure.  It will have times and phone numbers that you can leave behind with friends and family.

At that time we will send you a luggage tag.  The color of that luggage tag indicates your departure and return point for the tour.  Please be sure that the departure point that we indicate on the detailed itinerary is where you will be and where you will finish the tour.  If you want to begin or end your tour at a different point, please be sure that we know that. 

If you have specific requests for your lodging, please make sure we are aware of that soon.  Requests such as smoking/non-smoking, stairs, handicap and others can be made when we send in rooming lists.   Please let us know as soon as possible if you have such requests.
